For the celebration of the Volvo Ice Camp 2010 in the Austrian Alps, Volvo Cars Spain has organised the first Volvo Photography Competition in facebook under the theme "Volvo and the winter". This is the latest Spanish example of Volvo's strategy in Social Media, which began with the appointment of a local Community Manager and the local launch of two international social media campaigns: The Blind Preview and Drive Around the World.
For this Photo Contest, communicated to bloggers and Volvo fans in Facebook, participants had to send their pictures to the Volvo Community Manager. On February 22nd, the photos were posted on Facebook.com/volvo.es, where users could vote on their favorite picture and invite their friends to participate in the vote.
A jury of Volvo Cars Spain members, selected the winning picture based on the quality of the photos submitted and the number of "I Like it”" associated with each image. The author of the winning photograph won a VIP trip for 5 to Austria to participate in the Volvo Ice Camp at the ski resort of Kitzsteinhorm. The Volvo Ice Camp, built of ice and snow at 2,500 meters above sea level, is all about passion for sport, design and nature. A 5 day programme of activities including 4 nights stay in a luxury hotel in Kaprun and an adventurous igloo overnight stay at the Ice Camp, 3 day ski pass for skiing or snowboarding, 1 day visit to Salzburg, golfing at the Ice XC-Golf Challenge day, climbing the ice-tower…., all included in the prize!
The competition has been very well received in the blogosphere and in social networks. Several independent forums, such as Volvistas, Volvo4life or Volvotech, have posted the activity. Some ski, sports and marketing sites, were also involved.
