On day two of the Chicago Auto Show, Nissan announced what it is calling "Project 370Z." The new social media project is driven around the mildly refreshed 2013 Nissan 370Z and is aimed at building up hype for the car before sales begin in June.
The concept is simple: build a 370Z project car based on the input of Z fans on social media. “Car companies build project vehicles all the time, but we thought it’d be interesting to harness the power of social media to reach out to Z enthusiasts--the people who are doing this to their own cars everyday,” said Vice President of Nissan Marketing, Jon Brancheau.
Nissan will build the project car in three phases: power, handling/brakes, interior and exterior.
Decisions for modifications will be made based on Facebook fan wall posts, comments, and likes over the course of each voting session on the Nissan Performance Facebook fan page. The parts with the most fan support will be chosen for the upgrades.
The finished 370Z Project car will be unveiled in May at Nissan's annual ZDayZ event in North Carolina and Tennessee.
